The Room 312 “Presidential”

George Washington stands at sources of the American national history. He substantially participated in all undertakings, which forced transformation to thirteen colonies in the union of sovereign republics and then in the first modern federal state.

In Virginia parliament and in the first Continental congress in Philadelphia, where in September, 1774 appeared in the complete form, Washington one of first acted for the armed opposition of England. After fights near Lexington and Concorde in April, 1775 Washington was unanimously chosen by the second Continental congress the commander -in-chief of all American armed forces.

When raised a question on an election of the president, Washington did not participate in election campaign, and waited for in Mount Vernon, when he would be called by his compatriots. The members of elective board chosen in states in the beginning of January, 1789, unanimously voted on February 4 for Washington as the president.
