The Room 306 “Classics”

Johan Gettee the German writer, the founder of the German literature of New time, thinker and naturalist, honourable member Petersburg áN, — began with rebellious “Storm and Rush” and sentimental novel “Sufferings of young Verter”.

Through the period of so-called Weimar classicism, penetrated by spontaneous materialism of antiquity, marked ant feudal and tyrant fighting by the tendencies, Gettee went to realistic comprehension of problems of art creativity, mutual relation of the man and society, pantheistical pleasure by completeness of vital experiences.

Gettee’s creativity reflected the major tendencies and contradictions of the epoch. In the final philosophical composition tragedy “Faust” (1808-32), sated by scientific idea of the time, Gettee embodied searches of sense of life, finding it in the act.
