Richard I was the third son Henry II and Eleanora Arvitanska. The most part of the life he spent outside of England, in continental possessions of the English crown. Richard received perfect education, knew many languages (but not English), was the poet and judge of poetry, physically strong, brave, unrestrained man, talented manager and selector of adventures.

Richard and Philip II August should take part in Third crusade. For short term Richard collected funds and in June 1190 sailed in the Sacred Earth, having left as the head of England his brother, Prince John. Having won on a road the island of Cyprus, Richard has arrived in Palestine on June 8, 1191, where fortress — port Akra was in siege of crusader and the arrangement on honourable delivery of city was already achieved. Richard broken negotiation and on July 11 took ákra by storm. Not having received the promised repayment for garrison of áËra, Richard ordered to execute 2 thousand of prisoners, for what he had received a nickname “Lion's heart”. In memory of descendants Richard remained as the fearless warrior and wise governor.
