Peter Paul Rubens was born on June 28, 1577 in German Zigen. As it has appeared later, Rubens was fated to become the Flemish painter, draughtsman, and the head of the Flemish painting school of Baroque. But it was not the end of Rubens achievements: Paul Rubens the philosopher, archaeologist, architect outstanding collector, connoisseur of numismatology, state figure and diplomat and is known as well as scientist — humanist. By talent and variety of gifts, the depth of knowledge and vital energy Rubens is one of the most brilliant figures of the European culture of 17th century. The contemporaries named him the king of the artists and artist of the kings.

Rubens usually created the small sketch of the future picture, putting on a light ground the basic figure by brownish touches and building a colour composition through not numerous light paints. The sketches of Rubens, magnificent creations of his painting, were written quickly, embodying a plan of the foreman; after the picture through the schoolboys was completed, he passed it by his brush. However his best works are created by himself from a beginning up to the end.
